Pippa's experience as an intern at tda!
To welcome Pippa to the team, we sat down for a chat about her early experience at tda!, her background at Durham and what she’s enjoying most as she moves into digital marketing.
Q: How did you discover tda!, and what attracted you to the agency?
Having graduated from university in 2024, digital marketing is a career I’d had in the back of my mind for a while. After travelling for six months and having the time to think about what my next step should be, I decided to follow my gut and do some digging. I took a few short online digital marketing courses to learn more about the industry, and really liked the sound of agency life compared with working in-house.
I knew I wanted to stay in Scotland, so I started researching agencies in Edinburgh. That’s when I stumbled across tda! (The Digital Age), and I instantly loved the sound and look of the company. The website felt approachable and human, and it was clear they focus on long-term partnerships, thoughtful strategy and honest communication rather than buzzwords. I liked that they’re a smaller, specialist team, because it suggested I’d get to be hands-on, learn quickly and actually see the impact of the work.
Using my Gen Z “stalking” skills, I found Michael on LinkedIn and reached out. He replied very quickly and we arranged a call to chat. I could tell straight away that he genuinely cared about his team (or “tdalings”, as I now know them) and was eager to help me learn more about digital marketing. That combination of a people-first culture and a place where I could properly grow made tda! feel like the right fit.
Q: How would you describe your experience at tda! so far?
Fun!
From my very first day, the team has been incredibly welcoming. There are always giggles going on around the office, and people genuinely look out for one another. It’s a very collaborative culture at tda!, and I know I have support whenever I need it – whether that’s a quick sense check on a piece of content or a bigger question about how something works.
Even though I’ve only been here for a month, we’ve already had two social events – one for Halloween and one to celebrate tda!’s 10-year anniversary. Those have been such nice opportunities to bond as a team and get to know everyone better outside of the office.
Overall, it feels great to be surrounded by energetic, kind and hardworking people who are serious about the work but don’t take themselves too seriously. It’s made settling in as an intern feel very natural.
Q: What do you enjoy the most about being part of the content team?
What I enjoy most about being part of the content team is feeling like I’m contributing to real client work while still being in a very supportive, learning-focused environment. Even as an intern, I’m treated as part of the team, not just an extra pair of hands.
The work itself is quite detailed – things like adding copy into the website through the CMS, making sure everything lines up with the design team’s layouts, and writing META titles and descriptions for pages. You need good concentration and an eye for consistency, and I’ve discovered that I actually really enjoy that side of things. It’s very satisfying to see a page come together exactly as planned and know that I played a part in it.
I also really appreciate how much the team explains the “why” behind what we’re doing. It feels like proper mentoring rather than just being given a checklist. I’ve had chances to sit in on client calls too, which has been great for building my professional skills.
Overall, the best part is the mix of support, responsibility and collaboration. I feel like I’m learning a lot, but I’m also genuinely involved in the work.
Q: Any favourite office moments or behind-the-scenes memory?
Honestly, most days in the office feel like a highlight. People are always making me laugh and creating such a relaxed, positive environment to work in. Everyone has their own personality, and because we’re all from different places, it feels like we each bring something a bit different to the mix – like Bella proudly introducing us to various Danish drinks whenever she gets the chance.
In terms of standout moments, the Halloween party was definitely up there, with everyone fully committing to their silly outfits. The 10-year anniversary celebrations last week were amazing too. We attempted an escape room as a team, which was a real challenge but so much fun – lots of chaos, lots of laughing, and a nice reminder of how well we work together outside the office as well as inside it.
Q: Has your internship influenced what you want to do in your career?
Definitely. This internship has made me realise that digital marketing – and agency life in particular – is a path I really enjoy and want to stick with. I’m nowhere near ready to move on yet!
Working at tda! has motivated me to keep improving my work and developing my skills, whether that’s understanding content and SEO more, getting more confident with CMS platforms, or learning how to communicate ideas clearly to clients, or developing other skills in other areas within the business. Being surrounded by such hardworking, intelligent and creative people is genuinely inspiring, and it’s shown me how much room there is to grow.
Q: Describe your internship experience in three words.
I would have to say: Inspiring, collaborative, and rewarding.
