November campaigns we LOVED - Christmas Ads 2024

November Campaigns we LOVED!

Welcome to another month of tda’s favourite campaign picks from the marketing industry! November brings heartwarming campaigns, festive shopping, and is truly a fantastic time to be in marketing — filled with delight and high-quality campaigns to explore. We've picked some of our favourites for this issue!

John Lewis Christmas

Possibly the most awaited Christmas ad in the UK, this year's campaign was crafted by Saatchi & Saatchi, taking us on an enchanting journey of Christmas shopping. The story follows Sally, who discovers a magical world inside the John Lewis store while searching for the perfect gift for her sister. The tagline, “The secret to finding the perfect gift? Knowing where to look,” perfectly encapsulates the ad’s heartwarming message.

We loved the Narnia-like element where Sally is transported back to memories of her childhood and teenage years. By grounding the story in relatable experiences and inviting the audience to get involved through the song cover competition, John Lewis seamlessly blends emotional storytelling with interactive engagement. Overall, the ad beautifully captures the nostalgia and joy of holiday memories (and the joy of shopping). However, this year, the audience was divided — while some absolutely loved it, others criticised it as the worst John Lewis ad ever. What’s your take on it?

Amazon’s Midnight Opus

Amazon's latest holiday ad, "Midnight Opus," beautifully captures the power of workplace support and hidden talents. The heartwarming film follows a theatre janitor whose unexpected vocal abilities are discovered and celebrated by his colleagues, who use the Amazon app to help him achieve his dreams by purchasing a tuxedo and supporting his performance. And in the world where community means so much, we just couldn’t let this one slip!

We loved it for its emotional storytelling and focusing on human connection. Amazon truly transformed from an e-commerce platform to a facilitator of dreams and community spirit. The narrative subtly showcases the app's utility while tugging at viewers' heartstrings, demonstrating how technology can be a catalyst for human kindness and aspiration.

Shaun the Sheep x Baa-bour

Brand collab as it’s best! Shaun the Sheep and his mischievous flock are back in Barbour's 2024 Christmas campaign, bringing warmth and humour to the festive season. This year’s lighthearted ad, crafted in collaboration with Aardman, showcases the brand’s cozy winter accessories. The story follows Bitzer the sheepdog as he saves the day when a shivering choir of sheep struggles to carol at Mossy Bottom Farm. With a dash of festive magic, Barbour hats and scarves transform their frosty “baas” into harmonious melodies, filling the air with cheer.

We love how this campaign perfectly blends British charm with heartwarming humour, creating a story that’s both fun and festive. The collaboration between Barbour and Shaun the Sheep continues to celebrate quality, craft, and a love for the great outdoors, reminding us why these iconic brands are such a delightful match for the holiday season.
