Wood for Good

The UK's wood promotion campaign.

strategy | web design and build

Wood for Good is the UK's wood promotion campaign designed to promote the use of wood in design and construction.

The campaign works on behalf of the whole timber industry in the UK. It aims to promote the suitability and sustainability of wood as a building material to the construction and logistics sectors, and associated professionals such as architects and design engineers.

“Wood is nature’s most versatile building material and modern engineering methods expand possibilities for its application beyond traditional uses. Our objective is to make wood a first choice material for specifiers and designers by demonstrating what you can do with wood.”

Background

The UK is in the grip of a housing crisis. A cocktail of disastrous housing policies, lack of investment in house-building and a mortgage market shattered by the financial crisis have combined to leave ordinary earners unable to buy.

The government has committed to fast-track building of affordable homes on publicly owned land and have promised an additional £1.2bn fund to build 30,000 affordable ‘starter homes’ on underused brownfield land in the next 5 years.

Insight

Our insight is that only timber can address the need to deliver a major increase in new, quality housing through fast build times and off-site fabrication methods, whilst being environmentally sustainable. Wood is nature’s most versatile building material and modern engineering methods expand possibilities for its application beyond traditional uses.

Idea

Our ongoing campaign is designed to showcase how timber can help solve the housing crisis. Timber can address the need to deliver a major increase in new, quality housing through fast build times and off-site fabrication methods.

The campaign will highlight this and focus on the significant environmental benefits that come with using the material in construction – with wood acting as a carbon-storage mechanism and delivering low-energy buildings.

Work

A new website was designed and built that focusses on key influencers and decision-makers within the building industry. The objective of the website is to make wood a first choice material for specifiers and designers by demonstrating what you can do with wood.

Case-studies have been gathered to provide best practice examples, Technical information and training opportunities are all to be found in a well-designed, informative and responsive website.

tda! offered a level of technical competence and marketing nous along with a real interest and understanding of our business needs.”

Impact

Over 70 CPD events and online courses aimed at key audience groups are promoted through the website.

Over 180 case studies feature on the site. Everything from bespoke homes to social housing, from commercial property to sports arenas.

The campaign is backed by 24 well-recognised supporters in the industry with evidence suggesting that wood is increasingly becoming the material of choice in architecture and design.
